does anybody make a cab with one 12 and one 10

inch speaker?

I'm finding my JTM45 a little bassy sounding and I'm theorizing a 10" speaker might be good. I wouldn't mind having an open backed cab dedicated to the Metro that was wide enough for the head box. I'd put my 12" Scumnico in there and maybe a Weber 10?

Thanks if you know of anybody making a cab like that.

Cheers,

Bernie

I run my 66 JTM45 into Scumnicos and love the tone. I put the treble and mids on 10 and the bass on 1 presence around 6. Hit that with a treble booster for solos and the amp just sings. I find I recover a little highs through my ambiance channel as well. I run a line out from my attenuator to a reverb/delay effect and a separate amp and speaker seems to reinforce the highs from the amp plus I can add a touch of extra highs with the treble compensator on the attenuator.

I have tried an old Gibson Super goldtone cab -2x12/2x10 and it was a sweet sounding cab with the JTM45. It is a great combination for the JTM45-girth from the 12s with punch from the 10s. They pop up every once in a while but I don't think they were all that popular or something. I have been looking for one for years.

ive owned a pair of these in the past and they do sound awesome with guitar, but they are pretty ugly and very cumbersome.

Those are some cool PA speakers. I'd probably still change out the 10" for 12".

you could easily fit three 12" speakers in one of those, but it would be incredibly heavy. theres a lot of wood in them pa cabs. the backs are solid birch ply too if i remember rightly.

all the pa cabs I've seen have been much lighter than the guitar cabs - the wood is much thinner

well, then they are different from the vintage marshall PA cabs I've seen

trust me, those early 70's marshall ones in the pic above are definitely not light. they might only house two speakers but they are tall and wide. big mofos. the wood is no thinner than on a standard 4x12. notice how slim the grill cloth is and the amount of wood surrounding it making up the 'frame'. = heavy.

You might want to consider a 4x10 cab. Fender used this for the old bassman for this very reason - the jtm45 is a copy of the bassman. The 4x10 inch speakers will roll off and tighten up the bass. Another approach is to try two 12 in speakers in parallel where one speaker has a different efficiency/dB rating than the other such as one H magnet and one M magnet. This will also tighten up the bass.
