I like them for more bottom end and bass response. V30s sound great in Fender open-back combos as well. They are 60-watt speakers IIRC.

I despise them, but owning both vintage 30's (you should always keep some things you hate, just to remind yourself!!! ) and heritage 30's, I would have to say that they are absolutely f' all alike, in any way, shape or form.
Bit of contention as to whether they are 60 or 70watt speakers.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

I wish I was the guy that traded Vintage 30's for some G12M's !!!
The only way I would have not made that trade was if the G12M's were blown.

no fan here of the V30 for most older style [plexi] circuits....way too dominating mid range that is almost impossible to get out with many amps. I'da kept the blackbax, too, in a heartbeat..assuming they were in original / very good condition.

They're not close to the Her 30 IMO...the 30's would have given way more clean headroom without the mid spike.

I don't like them with marshalls because: are too loud, don't sound good and hurt my ears with the spike

I had one in my 50w combo for a while, I liked it well enough. I thought it had a loose bottom end which was a good thing for my combo.

I don't like them in 4x12" cabs except if they're in a tall straight Blackstar Artisan cab which smoothes out a lot of the spikey highmids.
And in the Artisan cab it isn't as stiff sounding as in an Engl or Mesa cab.
But they're pretty ok in open back combos.

Funny you should say that.

It's well noted that I hate both the Vintage 30 and the G12M-70 with a vengeance.

It's alse well noted that I use them both together in a 4104 combo. I didn't want to remove both the original speakers, and they marry up strangely well. Not brilliant, but OK.

Well they are much better sounding than the G12T 75W anyway.

Maybe with newer speakers, but I gotta disagree, at least where older G12T75's are concerned.
I picked up an old Marshall 4-12 at a yard sale years ago. It was one of THE best sounding cabs I've ever heard. Opened it up... loaded with G12T75's. I must say I was suprised as hell, but everyone that heard it said that that cab was awesome.
Maybe the speakers were super broken in, I dunno, but that cab fukkin' killed. I've never heard a V30 that was even close to that tone.

A nicely used and broken in G12T-75 actually sounds pretty good if you ask me.

V30s are not for everyone and they don't work well with just any amp.

I think the 75W sounds more trebly and kind of scooped. Less mids.
