Question about Greenbacks...
I have some Celestion G12M-25 reissues that I bought new in 1995. I think they sound pretty decent, and are obviously "broken-in". They have been 100% reliable. My question is; were these made in China, or did that start at a later date?...

Re: Question about Greenbacks...
Yeah, those greenbacks should be REAL good. Check the back of the cones, they should have 6402 stamped on them in white.

Why must the chinese made be not as good? Surely Celestion have some sort of quality control there.

Re: Question about Greenbacks...
I tried some reissue cab's that had the chinese greenbacks back in them back 6 yrs ago. Although I liked them better than anything else there (Guitar Center), there was just something different, as compared to my old '89 or '90 cab. I didnt realize that the ,post 2002 greeny's, were Chinese, until I started researching. The one's in my old cab (which I sold 13 or so yrs ago) were the original greenback reissue's. Ralle and Rockstah both use these '89-'02 era greenbacks. They are quite authentic sounding, but, I hear that NOTHING quite compares to the pre Rola's.

Re: Question about Greenbacks...
Its weird how opinions change - back at the start of 2000 I wouldn't use reissue Greenbacks as they were too toppy and the general consensus was that they were not very nice (and certainly nowhere near the old G12Ms). Now everyone seems to rave about the UK-made reissue G12Ms being great speakers - wtf!
I still don't like the reissue G12Ms (the reissue G12H was always a good speaker though). At the minute I'm using a quad of old G12Hs that I had reconed that sound great. Oh, and a Goodmans P12 in my 1x12 combo which is a real sleeper.

Maybe it´s just that the pre chinese GB´s are older now that they sound better now. Speakers do tend to sound better with age.

Re: Question about Greenbacks...
The cone was different on first g12m reissue ('89-2002 I think) The '80's celestions had no greenback's. They were discontinued in '77 or '78 I think. The 65 watter took over, along with 70 and 75 watters. I think the 'vintage' 30 was a '86 release, also a 65 watter. Many player's continued to use thier 25 watt speaker's though, especially in the studio. New greenbacks were not available though.
I read that celestion, due to much demand, reissued the greenbacks in '89. My experience is that these were done right, and sound real good (Ralle and Rockstah, Vkaxeman use them) .
The current cones used for ANY of the celestion greenbacks, just arent as good as the discontinued cones used on the first, English made reissue's. This is what I am hearing from other's.
The Scumback model is the only other speaker with cones that sound as good or better than these, with the sound getting as close to pre rola's as possible. This is what I have been hearing alot.

Re: Question about Greenbacks...
Yeah they are 25 watter's. Shoot a pm to Scumback. He will give you the specs. He used real pre Rolas as a reference, and it took him and his manufacter 9 months to nail the desired tone. I have been hearing from other's that these are as close to the originals (pre Rola's) as is out there.
