Marshall '80's JCM 800 Grillcloth and Speaker Screw Concern

Post by jerryjg » Fri Jun 26, 2009 12:09 pm

Kind of obscure thing , but hopeing someone might know.
I just picked up what looks to be an early  80's JCM 800 Cabinet . Got a fairly good deal on it- one ninety shipped.
The Grillcloth looks like a light straw brown color, and from waht ive been able to determine from looking around the web, it looks as if this was a cabinet from a certain batch of Marshalls from that particular time where the black faded to a light straw  brown.
It looks cool- kind of like an old 60's basketweave.Anyone know anything definitive on this grillcloth? I Don't believe Marshall ever issued a G12-75 loaded JCM cabinet in the early to mid '80's that was a limited edition or a reissue with brown grillcloth, did they?
Anyhoo, my other question  question is about the speaker  screws in the cabinet. They are all Flatheads. I was under the mistaken impression that all JCM's all used phillips, but i guess there must have been some overlap from the Checkerboard era where  for a certain amount of time where they used up the inventory of remaining flatheads?
Also, does anyone know the specific thread size, as I am missing two flatheads frm the cabinet and as I understand it, the originals are scarce.
Thanks again everybody , you've been a great help and I do appreciate it.
Here it is;

and another one- an 85 JCM 4x10 Bass Series with the light straw brown grillcloth

Interesting. I've seen plenty of 2 channel JCM800 combo's with brown grillcloth before, but I think I recall them having brown tolex as well.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

that is definitely a "fade-to-brown" original grillcloth. please dont change it. these are my favorites. been waiting for one to pop up locally on CL. i have a 1965a in this cloth. very cool IMO.

look underneath on backside of baffle to see the "black" portion.

I've got a straight cab with that cloth too. Got it for $75 unloaded. Also have the 2203 to go with it. I've got both a quad of G12-70M's or G12-80's to load it with.

I am looking for more of this to re-cloth a -800 slant cab to make a full stack. This is about as close as I've found:
