Looking for 15" speaker recommendations.

Post by Clammy » Mon Nov 10, 2008 4:22 pm

I recently picked up a mint Marshall 1984B bass cab loaded with G12-80 speakers with 444 cones. This cab is LOUD, and totally drowns out my JBL 2225J loaded 1551 2x15 cab. I was using a 1960B cab loaded with Celestion BG12S-100 speakers before getting the 1984B cab, and the tonal difference between the cabs is night and day, with the 1984B being much louder, brighter and distorting more. So, I am looking for 15" speakers that would be a good match to the G12-80s, and that put out a good, tight bottom end "thump", that hits you in the gut, if you know what I mean! Very Happy Cool

Oh, I guess I should describe the rest of my rig: 1973 or 1974 Super Bass head. Custom bass with DiMarzio X2N-B pickup. My tone/sound is gritty/dirty... kind of Lemmy-esque.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Cheers!

Very little will beat the punch of an EVM15L. It has NO cone distortion, so you're getting a pretty un-colored tone from it, but the bottom end will hurt people, and it doesnt lack for top end either.

Just to throw it out there, I have an 8ohm Celestion G15/100 that I've had forever, but I've never used it. (It IS a used speaker, its just that I never used it).
I have no idea what it sounds like, but its definitely got the original cone, and it isnt blown... no coil/cone scraping at all. Big 'ol cast aluminum frame, and has a "Rola Celestion, Ipswich England" label on it. If you're interested, PM me and Ill try to send you some pics. I had intended to put it out on eBay one of these days, but just never got around to it. I'd let it go reasonably.

Ev's are fantastic peavey black widows fantastic, Celestion FTR range fantastic there are so many speakers out there that will do the job
