i have a limited edition 812T A & B HW cabS, one with open back and i'd like to close it.
i suppose it's the same dimensions as the 1960A & BHW.
did the cabs kept the same dimensions through years (except the first tall straight 65/66 cab ) ?
what are the dimensions and thickness (cm please ) of the marshall 4 12" cabs ( slant and straight ) , especially the back panel for that purpose ?
are these dimensions measured with or without tolex ?
i read actual marshall HW cabs have a thinner tolex, what is the thickness of vintage and actual tolex ?

electricskychurch, the HW vinyl is considerably thinner than the original levant tolex, and the caster mounts on the straight cab are plastic, not metal as the priginals, there are quite a few differences, but the vibe is there,so I am going with it!

i reactivate this topic in case someone could shed a bit of light on the subject.
i would like to have a back panel made for my 812T cab (the limited edition 4x12 top cab open back , that was made for the jtm45/100 LE ) but i don't have access to my cabs for the moment to measure them .
i suppose it's the same dimensions as the 1960 HW cabs.
are they cut to the millimeter near or do it chage slightly from one cab to another ?
i mean, if i remember well it was 81 cm height / 72,2 cm large (with the tolex on, what means it must be maybe 2mm less or so for the actual cabs, knowing the Tolex is thinner than in the 60's).
could someone confirm the dimension of the back panel with tolex on please ?
what is the thickness ?
i wonder what i have to ask for as i will ask TAD/ Mojo to do it and they asked me a precise measument.
i told them it was for a Marshall reissue but they still asked me some precise measurments.
as i ask them to build it and put the tolex on and drill the screw holes, so i just have to screw it on the cab , the panel has to be the right dimension from the start.

I would tell you the same thing. Measure your cab don't rely on "should be" as that is a sure way of getting a back panel that doesn't fit. Honestly I find it hard to believe you can't make or have made a back panel in France. Should be tons cheaper than having it shipped from the the US.

If it is anything like the UK we struggle with 15mm top quality ply.
18mm and 12mm are easily available - I cannot find 15mm void free birch anywhere at the moment
As far as other dimensions they seem to vary subtly depending on cabs and I agree with Alex, measure your panels as templates.
Early cabs had a much bigger sound post too.

strange three month ago i contacted in the suffolk area a uk cab maker because i wanted to know if he could eventually make me a tall cab , and he proposed directly 15 ply birch , finally i avoided this project cuz it would have implied that i come near where you are living neil and pick up the cab and then make the trip home in whatever manner with the cab , taxi , bus , car stop and then ferry and then re car stop , taxi etc... any manner would have been a huge hassle with such a heavy beast

but anyway the guy got the stuff , if you wanna know who this is let me know neil !

Oh?
If you have details I would appreciate it.
I think the 15ply is 18mm thick? I had a Matamp tall 4x12 made of that stuff - incredibly heavy for every day use and I sold it on.
