My thoughts on jointery has always been that gluing surface area wins. This is why lap or rabbit joints are not considered the best choice for joining speaker cab sides. By fact of geometry the box joint will have a bunch of surface area to glue. The angle on the dovetail prevents the tight pin spacing that can happen with a box joint. This is what I think comes through in the link and perhaps why they are used so often. Also note, those are blind dovetail joints in the test, not full depth pins like the ones here. Not really an apples to apples test. Would have been better if it were equal glue surface area.
The dovetail adds the touch of craftsmenship and are much more attractive. As far as sound, I never rule out anything affecting it.
Here is some test data of dovetail angle with a very interesting result for glued and dry. http://www.akeda.com/documents/DovetailAngle.pdf
Enjoy!!

I know this post is old, but can anyone give the plans or any information on this build? I would like to see pictures of the final project. And was wondering if Marshall corners were used? I want to use original corners, but not sure of how to due this.
Thanks
