I don't think the lower impedance is neccesarily louder. You do need to change your impedance selector on your amp to match the impedance of your speaker cabinet. Phil

Scumback Alnico

Scumback has an Alnico 12 coming out.... I'll be getting a 65 watter, 8 ohmer.... 16 ohms, 25, and 30 watts are also possible.

I really, really like my 25 watt Scumback M75 with an 18 watt head.

Good luck!

I swapped in a set of Emi Texas Heats into my slant cabinet. I totally love these speakers. They are not too Celestion sounding at all. They are actually a bit more flat sounding which is good for me because they will accentuate however you set your amp. Lows, mids, and highs are all there in spades. Plus at 150watts power handling there is ton of headroom for metal tones. $200 from GC and I had to pay an additional shipping charge of $48 to get to them shipped to my door.

When I finish my Marshall clone build I plan on building two more cabinets and loading them up with one of the Emi Red Coat series to compliment the Marshall's tonalities.

Aren't the Red Coat series' cones made in the UK? I thought I had read that somewhere.

The last I heard, the Emi's were made in Kentucky or somewhere close. None of their speakers are made in the UK, never have been. They are opening a plant in China, just as Celestion did 6-7 years ago.

If I have a cabinet that the power rating is 120 watts 60 watts/side and the ohm selection are 16 ohm, 8 ohm, and 4 ohm. can I changes to the Governor or the tonker?? Now I m a lead player that love to play solo, with enough sustain and enough sentivity, sorta like Yngwie Malmsteen. , and for rhythm I love the metal sound of the 80's as Very pounchy. Which speakers should I use. and can it be added to the cabinte I have now?? Thank you
Sure, you could change to any speakers you want to!! Just use the same ohm rating on the new speakers, as the ones you have now (if your cab has 8 ohm speakers, replace with 8 ohm speakers). If you replace the speakers one at a time, and pay attention to replacing the wires to the correct +/- terminals on the new speakers, you'll have no trouble at all. (its always a good idea to make a simple pencil drawing of the wiring inside the cab, noting all the +/- connections on the speakers, before you disconnect anything, this way if you get ahead of yourself, you have a reference to fall back on). For the sound you're looking for, (assuming its a 4x12 cab) I think a good combination would be to stick with 2 Tonkers as your bottom speakers in the cab, combined with 2 speakers that are different, like Gov's, or maybe Wizards, or Man-O-War's for the top 2 speakers. (the Wizards are a cross between a Private Jack, and a Governer, or to put that in Celestion terms, a cross between a Green Back, and a Vintage 30). I like to use 2 different speaker types in my cabs, as it gives a wider tonal range. 2 Tonk's and 2 Wizards would be a killa combination. As far as where to get them, most music stores can order whatever you'd want, and I think internet outlets like Musicians Friend, or Sweetwater carry most of those speakers, so its just up to what you are gonna be happy hearing!! BTW, using any of the Em's mentioned would give you more than enough power handling for any amp you might be using. Here is a link to Eminence's tone guide. Good luck!!! http://eminence.com/pdf/tone_guide.pdf

Never heard about the China thing (that would suck if they were gonna import them here) but they are currently made in (of all places!!) Eminence, Kentucky!! 8)
