Cabinet/speakers advice

Post by Carbia » Mon Apr 22, 2013 7:15 am

Hi guys!

I have an Marshall 1987x modded to something similar to Jose Low gain mod and I'm looking to buy a new speaker cabinet for it.

Now I use an Marshall JVMC212 cabinet loaded with Eminence Legend V12. I bought that speakers 'cause I used to play with a Soldano HR50 and that speakers fits very well with Soldano and quite well with the Marshall, but now I've sold the Soldano and I'm looking for something more "marshall".

I know that the best option it's a 4x12 loaded with g12m's or g12h's, but I don't want a 4x12 'cause it's too big for my car and for the places in which I used to play, so I want a 2x12 and not a heavy one.

I was looking the 2061cx cab, with 2 G12H's, but I'm a little worried 'cause it's only 60w...
The same with the Palmer PCAB212GBK loaded with greenbacks...

In most cases I know that I won't be trouble, 'cause I don't play with the amp on 10, y use to use it around 4, but if some day I go to the studio to record it's a little scary to put a 50w marshall totally dimed on a 50/60w cabinet...

I've also seen that TubeTown (in europe, that it's better for me, no customs) build a replica of the 2061cx cabinet, but unloaded, so I can put Creambacks on it, but I've never tried the Creambacks.

Are the Creambacks good??

Any advice will be welcome!!
thanks and sorry 'bout the poor english level

You could try and find a used JCM800 1936, the first ones were loaded with G12-65. They're great speakers and at 65W each the pair can definitely handle a dimed 50 watter.

Another option if you get the 2061 is to get Scumbacks rated for 65 watts. Two of them will easily handle a 50 watter or combine an M75 with a Bm75. Contact Jim he will talk you through what you are looking for.

Good to hear. Funny that Celestion have now started selling what Jim has been selling for a while  Wonder whether anyone has done a back to back comparison with decent clips?

Yes, you're right. Scumback has been offered the same type of speaker for a long time, but here in Europe the Scumbacks are expensive with the taxes and the shipments... I don't know about England, but in Spain the import tax is around 25%...

I have a friend that has a 4x12 cab loaded with M75's and H75's from Scumbacks. He works as producer and sound engineer on a studio, so I'm gonna go with him to the studio to record some interesting clips comparing speakers, tubes... I'll post it here, of course 8)
