Re: New Scumback & WCR clips coming soon
I caught some kind of head cold on Easter after visiting my MIL with my wife. I'm still a bit congested, and my ears are still ringing from the cold meds so I can breath (hate that!).
After I get over the ear ringing episode I'll start working on sorting, naming, and uploading the 535 clips I received. (Yikes!)
The final mix of Scumrock with J75's is uploaded now...here it is:
http://www.scumbackspeakers.com/J75clip ... awn_01.mp3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and here's something a little heavier...The Penetrator...WCR Cherrybucker bridge pickup, Les Paul, BH75-LD speaker through the Splawn/FJA modded amp.

Re: New Scumback & WCR clips coming soon
Talk about a pile of clips...my web guy is coding all the clips (all 535) into the Sound Clips pages, but with 14 speakers it's going to be a good week before they're done.
The M75 page is the first one we're getting done. Here's what it's like "in progress", more to be added this week for all of the speakers.

I wrote a semi Rolling Stones clip and played the rythm guitar on it...Dirty Stoners.
My 61 SG Special with the WCR G90's, Metro 1987 50w, and M75's in this one. No fx, just plugged straight in, bridge pickup.

Re: New Scumback clips done, and uploading (update 4/21/13)
Hello Jim,
very good work!
I have a question regarding your speakers: are all the parts for your Scumbacks (Basket, cones, magnets, voicecoils etc.) manufactured in USA?
I'm asking this question because the rumor goes that e.g. the baskets are made in China- which is a thing I cant really imagine
Regards
Robert

Re: New Scumback clips done, and uploading (update 4/21/13)
Glad you like the clips, there's a lot more to come.
Rumor mill killing...the frames are built in Asia to my specs which include machine screws and epoxy glue to attach the frame to the magnet/plate assembly. This is how Celestion used to build them in the 60/70's, minus the addition of the epoxy with the machine screws. Combining the epoxy with the machine screws is a double indemnity to make sure your frame magnet plate doesn't shift.
I also had the frame beefed up around the mounting lip to make it stronger. Same bolt hole pattern as standard Celestion frames. I understand that the Celestion plant is very close to the factory that builds my frames. I just pay the factory that builds mine a lot more to build a better frame for me.
Voice coils/lead wires are made in America. Cones/spider/dust caps are made in England by Kurt-Mueller to my specs as well. Kurt-Mueller supplies the cones/parts for the English made Celestions (Gold/Blue and Heritage lines), but not the Chinese made speakers.
I and my production crew build, assemble, test, pack and ship the speakers from Southern California.
So the parts come from three different countries.
There's a lot of stigma attached to speakers built in Asia, China, etc. In my experience it's also a case of "You get what you pay for." Manufacturers don't have to choose the lowest bidder for their parts, it's just that most do.
I'm not one of them. I don't have investors or accountants/bean counters to answer to for my profits. Since that's the case, I also don't have to maximize profits to please stock holders. It also means I don't have to compromise the build quality of the speaker frame, or it's parts (regardless of the country of origin) to satisfy a quarterly dividend, or investors.
I'd rather pay more for a frame that's built better, and not cheap out. That's also why I was able to increase the warranty from 30 days from my former supplier to 1 year once I took over production, and trained qualified assemblers.
I hope that answers your questions. If not, email me.
Jim

Hi Jim,
thank you a lot for the precise answering of my questions and your statement reg. to your outstanding quality politics!
It's very nice to hear that you use the Kurt Müller Cones, because this is a well established, very old German manufacturer:

I hope that you find a serious distrtibutor for the Scumbacks here in Germany

Re: New Scumback clips done, and uploading (update 4/21/13)
Well, ProGuitar is kind of going nuts with them. I just talked to the owner this morning. He's got a 100 speaker order in for this month, and he says he's selling 6 per day on average, so he's going to increase his orders again.
I just found that out this morning.
