How to safely clean a speaker cone?

For speakers that have years of dust accumulated on one side of the cone, what is a safe method/way to remove that dust and not damage the cone?

I use a soft 1" wide paint brush. They're 99 cents at Home Depot. Don't press hard, just enough to remove the dust.
