Fizzy sound from speakers

Post by Icarus » Wed Aug 24, 2011 9:30 pm

Hi Guys
I need some advice .
I just bought two Mojotone Vintage 30 copies & two Eminence Private Jacks .
Put the together in a quad box
playing them at home they sounded fine but when I tried them out with my band the clean sounds were ok but when
overdriven then sounded very fizzy sounding like playing through radio speakers.

I asked my tech & he reckons there wire up correctly
Does anyone have have any suggestions ?

the mojotone's should sound fast and snappy, chimey/quacky. not the warmest speaker out there but a decent V30 type thing for the money. i've got one in a little 2x 6V6 savage combo purely because it seems so efficient, probably more than it's rated. i've had scumback H55 and H75 in that little amp before and by comparison the mojo is in no way fizzy. can't help you with the eminence though.

Maybe the mounting screws are too tight!
Loosen all of them to finger tight, stick the back panel on and listen again!

Speaker mounting screws need to be almost loose..if that is the problem...finger tight and just a hair more...
Check out info online from speaker manufactures...Hope it is an easy fix!

MAKE SURE they are wired correctly. Sounds like you have them wired out of phase and that WILL make them sound harsh and trebly.

Take a 9v battery. Pull the speaker cable out of your amp head and touch the tip of the 1/4" plug to the positive terminal of the battery, the barrel will touch the negative terminal.

BOTH speakers should move in the same direction. Out, preferably.
