How did I do for $75??

Post by Mxzx » Tue May 03, 2011 9:51 pm

Picked up this empty JCM-800 1960B cab to go with my -800 2205 that I've had forever. I guess that is called "basket weave" or something. Looking for a quad of -75's to put in it!!

Looks like a perfect match! I love the look of well-worn amps and cabs. Battle scars!

I think it is just the normal black cloth, not basketweave. some of the JCM 800 era Marshalls do seem to have faded to brown like that over time.

My buddy's 4x10 1965a is also faded like that, while mine is black. I think his looks cooler.

I'm trying to figure the best way to mildly pre-fade my bolt of Salt & Pepper Basketweave that came off my 1960AHW cab. The pepper strands are a bit too dark and the faded ones from the 68-early '70's look really cool.

Anybody hear of any good ways to do this?

(I think it's a paper-based fiber, not a plastic-based weave).

I got a spray bottle filled with instant coffee and sprayed it on the grill cloth. Then get a heater with a fan or a blow dryer and dry it. You will have to do this several times to get it to darken up.
So you think your Mesa-Boogie is cool? You won't even be able to hear it over my Marshall Superlead

I don't think so, the head is an '85, I have had that head since '90, and it was like that when I bought it. I have seen some amps with the same color.
