Scumbacks M75

Post by Ruben » Sat Nov 13, 2010 9:07 pm

Just recieved a pair of M75's

great sounding speakers, but I do notice them being somewhat flat in response.
How long will it take to break them in? And what to expect?
Any users comments perhaps?

thanks

Mine took somewhere around 40 hours IIRC at pretty good volume.

Sweet tone. I have the LHDC version and they sound very, very much like my old G12-65's. The standard M-75 will sound like an old version 25 watt Greenback. Aside from that, I find that the speaker "opens up" once broken in, has more detail and the mids get sweeter. Hope that helps, it's tough for me to describe tone. Maybe check out some clips.

The 65w M75's need 40-50 hours of playing at stage volumes (over 25w, or loud enough to be heard over a drummer) to fully break in. You'll get a bigger bass response, more mids, and a slight reduction in treble when they are broken in.

My advice is to keep playing, loudly.

So finally I got tired of waiting for my 2 Scumbacks to break in.
Been playing the cab live for like 20 hours already but still sounded pretty flat.

Hooked up a cd player on repeat to my dimed 100 watter and let her rip for like 10 hours :)
The difference it made was just unreal. Now, they already start to out-shine my favourite 25 Watt blackbacks.

Beautiful bass, great mids and the hights are definitly getting there. Can't wait to have 20 more hours on them :D

And now you know why people are paying for the FBI (full break in) service. I got a 28 speaker shipment in on Monday, and 24 of the 28 were ordered with FBI. Another order came in yesteday, and 16 out of 28 got FBI service.

I'm getting a 3rd 4x12 ISO cab (already got 3 variacs!) made so I can knock this out in two days instead of 3-4. All I do is unload/load speakers into those FBI boxes, it's insane!

Glad to hear you got the speakers on their way to tonal nirvana, Ruben!

Awesome, I like that adjective! A client came over yesterday to get his four M75-16 ohm 65w after they were done w/FBI. He plays in a big VH tribute band out here in LA. Went to his gig last night, emailed me this morning to see if had two more 8 ohm 65w M75's for his smaller combo.

I said he could get the last two (of 12) on my shipment that comes in on Tuesday, then I asked him how last night's gig went.

He said "In a word "amazing"

Every guitar player was in awe of my tone ;-)"

He comes by Thursday for the next pair.
