This is what it sounds like, when cones cry.

Can you still record/mic an amp with these installed? If so, how would the mic placement need to be?

Hopefully Alex can chime in. I know he has looked into this personally.

I make my own look just like the Weber ones for $2 each and I like the tone and the dispersion much better with than without. I recently read about another solution a foam donut that goes in front of the speaker haven't tried it yet but it is supposed to do the same or better and is even easier to make yourself. I am not sure I believe everything this guys writes but the proof is in the pudding and it is cheap enough to try.

I like how Jay Mitchell explains what actually happens as the cone makes sound, but if we are to totally accept how he describes the operation of a beam blocker or a diffuser, then I would invite him to graph out the results of on and off axis response below 200Hz, because the graphs show a considerable difference in SPL @200Hz, which he claims is supposed to be unaffected.

If it doesn't affect the sound below 1KHz, then why are the graphs different at 200Hz?

I would try a foam diffuser but not at the cost of diminished low end response.

I'm not an audio whiz, but from what I understand of acoustics, the low end would be the least likely to be affected. When a pimply teenager rides past your house in his pickup truck with subwoofers, you don't hear the treble, but the bass frequencies pass through everything.
