'Anyone Ever Seen A Cab Like This??...

Post by T.L. » Sat Sep 25, 2010 9:29 pm

I bought this JCM 900 cab (1960B) NEW in 1998. It has a steel mesh grill, and I have NEVER seen another one like it ANYWHERE....not in stores, not in catalogs or magazines, nor anywhere on the Internet. Every one I have ever seen has a nylon grill cloth. Have any of you ever seen one? It came with G12T-75s, but I replaced the top two with a pair of Celestion 25-watt greenback reissues that I bought in 1996...

Never saw a Marshall with a steel mesh grill from the factory before. Might have been a custom order, or modified so you can't tell. But if you're saying you bought it new from a store, that would appear to be a custom order.

It's definitely a mystery to me. I DID buy it new, so why would a music store custom-order a Marshall cab? It was the only one of its kind in the store. There was no top cab (1960A), and all others had nylon grills...

are you sure it's a brand new cab and not an old cab that someone has retolexed and put the mesh on and passed as a new cab?

A bunch of those were very popular in the 90's with L.A, bands. Yah I've seen them.

I haven't seen the Marshall 90s cabs like that, but I had a 90s Crate (elephant) 4x12 during the early 90s (v30s), and it had the same metal mesh front. Very good for keeping "rock and roll debris" from damaging the speakers... good for the hard-rock-metal years, but it didn't stop the whipped cream and beer from getting through!
