Speaker suggestion needed?

Post by Locoed » Sun Aug 15, 2010 8:33 am

Hi all,newb here,new to this forum,not gear.
So I've been using V-30s for a very long time,I just bought a Marshall TV 4x12 with greenies, despite being made in china they sound pretty good, but still there's something missing, not sure what it is. I play blues to metal, looking for something with punch and Low end,I use several different amps.
Any idea? Scumback?

Fill in the blanks to these and email me the answers. That way I can possibly guide you to the right speaker solution, or recommend something else (including Celestions/Eminence if they make the most sense).

1. Guitar/pickups used, how hot do you set your guitar volume?
2. Amp type/tubes used/clean RMS rating (volume of 4-5) and OD power rating (over 7)?
Where is your amp’s volume set?
3. Fx used?
4. Style of music or name a famous guitarist tone you’re trying to get close to?
5. Size and depth of cabinet (dimensions), is it straight or angled, open or closed back type?
6. What speakers are you using now and what do you think needs improvement?

Les Pauls and ESP's,mahogany with active pups EMG,volume is always opened up.
For gigging i use an Uberschall and Boogies,JJ tubes and volume is never over 4-5
No FX for playing live, just a dry signal.
If i had to pick a guitarist tone i get close to ot would be Gary Holt (Exodus)
Cab is a closed back Marshall TV,29-3/5"W x 35-1/2"H x 14-4/5"D top cab Greenbacks
Not enough tight mids.Seems a tad loose,i like tight tight tight, with low end attack.

You'll need to look at an M75/H75 mix in my speakers, 65w. Prefer to do this via email in the future, so as not to burn up the Metro forum bandwidth, OK? Email is in my sig below...

That FAQ needs to be updated and added to, so for the most current recommendations email me.

As for a Scumbag ball cap, I just saw about 8-10 black hats w/gold logos in my storage unit the other day, and I have Scumback Speakers ball caps in white as well.

As I get older my ears get better,V-30s aren't cutting it anymore.I like greenies better, however I know scumbacks are better, plus James Lugo uses them and he has a great ear.
