Less mids for sure, because the vintage 30 has rather horrid exaggerated mids.
I wouldn't ever describe a G12-75T as scooped though. I'd rather have 75's any day.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

+1, especially over V30's.

I dont know if I've ever found the "perfect" speaker yet, though. Something that does what the V30 advertises, but IMO, doesnt deliver... early "25-30 watt" style breakup, but with moderate power handling, and a bottom that stays solid and doesnt flub out.
To me, a G12T75 comes pretty close to that, but just seems to lack early enough of a breakup.

You guys should check out this guy SoloDallas. He gets really good AC/DC sounds using V30s loaded in a Marshall 1960BX cabinet. It might make you think twice about V30s.

Nah... still dont like 'em.

Just kidding... thanks for that link. I've surely seen lots of players get killer tone out of what I thought was shit equipment, but it just never seems to work for me.
I've had amps that came with V30's. I've also bought them, thinking they would work with whatever was the "amp de jour", but I never got decent tone with them. To me, they've sounded harsh and way too mid-dy. I dont doubt that there are some players that can get a nice tone with them, though.
Hey!! I've NEVER been able to get along with Tele's, but SHIT loads of players can get amazing tone with them. To me, its whatever works for a particular persons equipment, technique and fingers.

What cone number does the Vintage 30 have?

According to Weber the 444 cone is a 55Hz cone wich has more bass than a 75Hz cone.

I don't know why everybody harps on the mids so much. My scumback is kind of middy and everyone thnks they rule (including me).

I understand harsh describes pretty much every new speaker coming out of celeston these days, you have to break them in.

I swapped the V30 in for the g12 80 that came with my combo, the v30 had a softer looser tone that sounded more 60s to me, which was what I was after. It also sounded deeper, or at least had thicker low mids, which is good for an open back combo.

I'm guessing it's a better open back speaker.

AH, See, those are good sounds for the most part. But, personally, i can definitely hear that the big part of those tones that are wrong (vs. the real angus tones) is the midrange. Very stuffy full midrange that masks all the good hollow clear woody tones of the guitar.

V30s, I've found, are STELLAR live speakers since they do a fantastic job of cutting through, but they're not for me. Especially if recording.

I put Hellatone 60/V-30's in my 1936/2-12 cab last year and do not regret it one bit. I did not want early break up since I use two different distortion pedals for dirt and needed more power handling than a pair of greenbacks H-30's would have. Maybe it's just the way they work in a 2-12 with a metal-face bass amp and Strat. Maybe it's whatever Dave at Avatar does to them to break them in. My 2-12 sound as big and chunky as a 412 and I like the mids. They do cut through on stage but I think the SnP grill cloth helps keep them from drilling folks. This cab came with some sort of Eminence speakers that were simular to 75's. Everybody's different.
