What Speakers for Pre-Amp Distortion?

Post by Bluetone » Sat Apr 24, 2010 5:00 pm

Just curious as to what speakers work best with pre-amp distortion.

I'm not a heavy metal dude, more of a 90's alt rock fan. What do you recommend?

A Marshall 2204. I'm modding my Metro 1987 to those specs, and am afraid the G12H/M speakers in my cab will be too harsh. I'm just scared of ice-pick highs.

yep, I hate them too! Stay away form Vintage30's!

Older mono marshall cabs with G12 T 75 sound really good with 2205, but I bet it would be even better with H speakers...
I believe scumbacks are smoother sounding than new celestions...

What works best for me is 4x G12M (25w)...with a dod 250 for a lot of gain boost
with or without a lot of pre-amp gain M's are the smoothest IME, then H(75hz)

Don't get Mojo BV25M's. They are too vintage sounding for 90's preamp distortion sound. They sound better with a cranked plexi. IMO.
