This is what it sounds like, when cones cry.

Is it possible that 1973 being a transitional year that they may have left the code off of most of them? I also have a friend that had a 73 cab he bought in the mid 70's w/ greybacks without codes.

Wow...I also had a pair of 1973 M speakers without cone codes. They looked exactly the same as another set I had that were labeled and had 014 cones and sounded the same and were labeled the same but no cone code. Wierd....you have entered the twilight zone...

If these are recones, we need to find the guy who did them because they sound identical to vintage greenbacks.

Just to add fuel to the fire...and help out those with the 1973 G12M's with no cone #'s...it turns out that I have one like that, but only one.

BF23 (February 23, 1973) G12M T1221 "Rola Celestion" labeled speaker
There's not a cone # on this one, either.

KE10 (October 10, 1972) G12M T1221 "Rola Celestion" labeled speaker
There's the 102/3 cone code.

If you notice, the doping pattern around the dustcap is much wider than the other 73 G12M's on this thread.

What were the date codes on your speakers, beaulieu & leleduke? Just curious to know when yours were built.

Here is a quad of 1975 creambacks. Two have cone codes, two don't.

mine are mf 5 for my 73 cab. This sucks I used to have an older basketweave cab but I sold it. the speakers were 102-003 1 HA 12 HB I should of never sold it!! The guy Threadmuffin on ebay ended up with it and just sold it a few months ago for around 2,000.00 plus. I really need it to go with my 68-69 100 watt MArshall. It had 2 20's and 2 25's in it. 3 were from 68-69 with the good cones and 1 speaker said MH18x with a 177 cone (1975) i think? the cab was a straight and in 9 1/2 condition with 10 being perfect. The grille cloth was perfect and it only had 2 dime size pieces of tolex missing!! I'd like to find out who has it now for I will have a chance of getting it back if it ever comes up for sale...

beaulieu, I feel your pain on the old cab you sold. When I sold two basketweave cabs (69 & 70) I took the money and bought my wife her diamond engagement ring. Of course, you look at her ring and go "Wow, nice ring!"

But it doesn't have the same tone as "Wow, nice rig!" :D

I am the second owner and I asked the first owner if he ever replaced or reconed any speakers and he said no. Back when he had it I could see him replacing a spaeker and not reconing one. Plus the date codes all match!! I looked with a mirror can't see one.

Original four screw cork gasket. not a recone.
My 1973 Marshall cab has three original T1221's with 'sand' colored magnet covers, date code LF23. My wife, who has 20/10 vision, looked thoroughly with a flashlight and dental mirror and found no cone code. When I bought the cab the fourth speaker was a later Blackback. A mic stand had gone through the grille cloth and through the original speaker. I found a greyback on Ebay, date code KF6 -- identical looking cone, no cone code. I sent pictures to Dr. Decibel at Celestion. He said the cones were original, probably made by Kurt Mueller. I've A/B'd with a few cabs, haven't found anything that sounds better. Never with cab with Pulsonics, though.
