GreenBacks sound bad

I just put in some greenback speakers in my cab replaced those GT-12 75 watters and its better now thier are Mids finally and a silcky high end but it sounds horrible do these need to be broken in.

Can I just play them and break them in like that. I know these speakers dont have the best low end but they sound really flat. On the other hand I can now hear mids but they sound flat and wooley.

I dont have a Variac

Yes they will need to be broken in and loosened up.
You don't need a variac to break them in. You can either play the crap out of them yourself to get it done, or some guys will cover the cab in blankets, etc. to dampen the sound and run loud music (radio or CD or whatever) through the cab for a few days.
The variac is sure quicker though.

I've got 10 year old reissue greenbacks in my cab and they are way broken in and I'm replacing them with G12H-30's as soon as I can. They are just way too bright sounding for my tastes. I haven't tried the variac way of breaking in. Good Luck!

power break at like 2 1/2 on volume for 45 minutes with a blanket man that was loud I was playing a farwell to kings album by rush.

Sounds like you bought the wrong speakers for what sound you were looking for. Sell the Greenbacks and try some G12H-30's. Those will have more of the bottom end that you're looking for and will sound damn sweet after you break them in.

You can try mixing. I couldnt be any happier with my Webber speakers. His 1230 is like a RI G12H30 and the 1230-55 is more like the older G12H30s. Since Ive mixed the 1230-55 in a cab with my V30s I cant believe how much better everything sounds. Then again I wasnt plagued by harshness. I just wanted the cab to be a little darker so I could dial in a bit less bass and more treble for a tighter sound.

I mean I hooked up a record player through the amp with no powerbreak and at 2 1/2 on te volume it sounds better now still not perfect I am after that jimmy page tone song remains the same.

I was just playing and it was sound good then the mojo stopped I think my tubes are going

my overall tone varies its good sometimes and then it sucks other times
I am using burstbuckers 2 and when it comes to soloing or leads they are just kinda weak and thin.

I think we all have had days where our favorite tone just doesn't seem to happen, and the next day it's like there was never a problem.
Hey Billy!! About time someone else around here plugged Weber speakers, I can't get these guys to quit buying these Celestions that they whine about for days (except Stan, he LIKES his Celestion reissues better than his Weber 1230!!

) My 30 watt Silver Bells whoop the crap outta my 10 yr. old Greenback reissues, fat and thick but still cut too!!

Ive been dickin around with Celestions for years but Ive never been satisfied. Im so cheap Ive been putting off tryin out speakers for a long time. Needless to say after getting the 55hz 1230 it made such a big difference Im lookin at it in more of a new toy mode then I have before.

I want to try out the Ceramic Blue Dogs that Weber says is a ringer for Pre Rolas. Im not sure what the Silver Bells are about. Have to try them out as well. Right now Im pretty happy with the V30/1230-55 2x12 but I have a 4x12 that I want to load up. I have a few of his Jensens. Webers just breath more and have way more balls. Especially agt higher volumes. Their breakup is much more natural.

Flames, I'm with Stan. I love my V30's. they are still breaking in and they already smoothed out. I play cranked alot . Cranked in a 12x10 room will vibrate your eyeballs though . Feels kinda strange

I always equate the Blue Dogs to the earlier AlNiCo Celestions, perfect for a Vox or the early JTM45 sound. The Bells are more along the lines of the ceramic Green/Black/Cream-back Celestion of the late 60's throught the mid 70's to my ears. They've got a very fat midrange sound with just the right amount of high end "cut" left in -- pick attack is great -- but still have that soft low-end rolloff that a good Greenback should.
