High Order Pick-up questions

Post by Koa-dogg » Mon Mar 06, 2006 9:50 pm

I am looking to get a set of High Order pick-ups for a LesPaul clone That I am making. I see that the 8.3K are very popular but what magnet/wind/Spacing should I get? The guitar is your standard Mahogany/Maple body but is chambered. I want something that is sweet sounding and will sing with my 12XXX clone that I am making. Open to any/all suggestions.

Thanks,
Scott

Give Jeff at Highorder an email. He's been very helpfull to me on deciding on the what pickup I wanted. So many choices and combinations that it can be very confusing.

I basically got a A3 8K Neck / A2 9K Bridge.
This is going into a 90's Gibson Les Paul Custom "Blackie".

Good Luck! :D

Yes, Jeff is very helpful. I just received my 8.8K A2 for my Frankenstrat and it is a beautiful piece of work. I am now also contemplating what to get for my Les Paul. It's nice to be able to pick and choose exactly what you want, but that means we need to know what you want.

If you break it down, normal spacing for a Gibson is correct, 42 gauge wire, cover, black or black and creme?, A2, A3 or A5 magnets?, then the wind, hmmm. I experimented with alot of pickups and suggest listening to the samples on the Duncan page. The more winds, the more mellow the highs. It depends on that particular instrument and what you want to get out of it. Once you get all that together, the High order is a fine choice.

Jeff is awesome! I'm using A3 7.8s in the necks of my Tokais and A2 8.3s in the bridge positions. SG and Les Paul clones BTW. I may order a higher powered set for the SG though. It sounds very sweet, but lacking in output compared to the Love Rock. I found the set perfect for the Love Rock.

I just got a Maximus bridge and an A2 8.3 neck. Both Zebra. I'm going to sell them as they don't complement my LP custom after putting them in. They have a great growl factor but the high end for my ear is too bright/sizzly with my ebony fingerboard. I don't have any other guitars to try them in so if you guys know anybody who wants to cut out the 3 month wait and snag 'em let know.
