Im looking for a eq pedal for my plexi replica and am on the fence about the MXR 10 band graphic eq or Empresses paraeq parametric eq pedal. Ive heard the graphics are best for shaping tone and if your looking to basicly surgicly remove a frequency you dont like the parametric eqs are the best. I know the rack mouted stuff is kind of a thing of the past and I remember a local Detroit guitar player as well as myself and several of my guitar buddies. Used to run a furman pq 3 through our supeleads and it made them just kick your ass with some of the greatest tone. But Im not sure on the parametric pedals out these days if it would be a good route to take or still with a graphic eq pedal. And input would be greatly appreciated from people using either one and what you prefer.

Are you going to use the eq as a boost or a tone shaper?

Actually both and both pedals have a gain feature I believe the mxr has 12db of gain and the paraeq has 30db of gain.

Have a look at the Carl Martin Parametric EQ. I use one in the effects loop of my Jubilee and I love it. Its 3 band and is pretty flexible.

Actually I did check into them I noticed it didnt have bandwidth knobs though and for me that is what makes a good parametric eq. And seperates them from a graphic eq which you have no bandwidth control.
