Attentuators, power soaks, power brakes, etc.

I got a older Marshall (non master) I'm trying to tame. More roar but less volume. Does these attenuators work? Or are they tone suckers like some have said? Prefered brands/ types? THD hotplate, Weber MASS, the new Gibson, Marshall power brake, DR.Z? Who likes what and why? Superior to master volume mod? What say you!

Had a marshall powerbrake and could'nt tell the diff between that and a sholtz soak i got in the early 80's. Both real buzzy at lower levels and lack tone. I say cranker an be done withit. 82
