Phase Inverter 470k Cathode Resistor

Post by kram » Tue Mar 28, 2006 3:57 am

So, I own one of those Red Bear amps that are fairly close to a JCM800 copy, except running 6L6's. I've seen the inside shots of a couple of different ones and noticed that they've done a bit of the 'this value is close enough' or 'we ran out of wire so leave that out' kinda deal.

I'm just about to temporarily convert it to an SLO preamp (due to boredom), drawing up the layout etc and I just noticed the value of the shared cathode resistor for the PI. It's 470K not 470ohm!! What sort of affect would this have on the amps sound? It's been 470k since it left the factory :?

If definitely so, then you wouldn't hear anything out of the amp, because the PI tube would be totally in cutoff.

Look again! It's a mistake in labelling the resistor or ... 8)

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

See what it measures with your multimeter
