Man, I really liked it a lot! I've heard clips of it but never got the chance to play one until yesterday. I gotta say that it sounded terrific. More of a JCM800 vibe I'm guessing? Haven't really spent time with one of those either.

I played one several years ago in the store and loved the sound. Bought it and took it to rehearsal but it sounded wimpy and weak compared to my Marshalls. Never could get it to sound good with the band (even though it sounded great by itself) and ended up selling it. Guess it depends on what you're after but the HR50 (smooth and refined) is not a Marshall (agressive and in your face).

Put in NOS Sylvania 6L6GC or 7581A, snip out the bright cap on the gain pot and - if still necessary - increase the FB resistor from 39K to 56K or 68KBilly Batz wrote:Even the SLO sounds a little thin in a band situation

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

I used one at two gigs only, but thought it sounded great in the mix. Cut through the band with that wonderful midrange Soldanos are known for without being harsh at all. I had installed a depth mod and effects loop mod on this one ... had plenty of low end. I was using it with a 412 with V30's and a delay pedal in the loop (which does make the tone less bright). I really liked it in the band setting, but not so much on its own. I boosted it with a Boss SD1 or BD2 for solos ... can't remember which.

I bought one just for grins a while ago. My favorite Marshall MV hums too much so I tried a Soldano. A quick retube and biased and pow, sounds great. Keeps right up with the Peacemaker for VH

I have both. Regarding the Peacemaker, yes it does VH, but in my opinion a really good Super Lead covers more ground more effectively. I can't really get on with the eq section. RE The Soldano, yes, those Hot Rod 50's are little screamers, especially with some nice tubes. It's VH is equally convincing, the only downfall being that it is a master volume design and it does not clean up the way a Super Lead does.
