Saw a program on Discovery about car design. They visited Jaguar in England, all tweed, pipes and understatement, Alfa Romeo in Italy, Armani suits, cool sunglasses, and on to Germany where a guy in a suit that looked like it was molded on him from carbon fiber or something, turned to an Audi TT and said: Ziz Car speaks Görman !

Cool looking amp.

I very appreciate it, that you've dropped some nice words about my British Purist :D

Unfortunately the pixs aren't very actually :( , but soon I'll make some new ones. The amp seen on the pixs is one of my first prototypes, I've finished about a year ago. But anyway, let me say some words (in my bad German's English) about this amp and about the changes I've done meanwhile.

The "Clean" preamp is very close designed like a mix between a '67 JTM45/100 and a '69 1959SLP. The "missing" mid control is internal fixed about half way open. This channel has a footswichable boost function, which adds the .68 cap to the second preamp tube's cathode and cranks the mids full way open at the same time.

The "Scream" preamp doesn't scream, it's more a bity woody creamy sound, and it's basic design is a special tweaked 2203 w/o any harsh or brittle highs, but w/ huge balls and well pronounced mids. With the two mini switches seen on top of the chassis next to the OT you can tweak this channel by your personal choice (bass and mid behaviour).

In the amp included is a footswitchable tube booster, which only boosts the Screamsound. Bite, Punch and Pregain controls located on the rear panel. With the booster activated it's easily possible to play even stuff like Lynch, Wylde, aso. but w/o anything "on the floor".

The power amp section is basically a Marshall desingn, but because the .1 coupling caps in my ears were to slow and the .022 caps were sounding a tad too thin, I've decided for .047 coupling caps to the output tubes. In my ears that's the best compromise between "both" poweramp designs.

The amp is buildt on a stainless steel chassis to stop the magnetic fields, usually creeping from the PT through (steel) chassis. Moreover I'm using FRED H.T. diodes and regulated DC to the filaments of the preamp tubes, to prevent any hum and buzz in the amp's sound.

Of corse I'm using SoZo caps - only with a few exceptions, i.e. the cathode bypass caps. Untraditionally, but with conviction I'm using metal film resistors – and meanwhile the Welwyn wirewound types on the screens of the EL34.

The trannies seen on the pixs are made in U.K. and were once designed for my other amp model DINO 939 - http://www.larry-amplification.de/dino939/ - but weren't very satisfyingly for a 60's sound. Therefore for my British Purist meanwhile I'm using custom made trannies from Mercury Magnetics with an 1.75" OT, made to my special demands and a PT with an extra secondary for the DC heaters. Also the choke now is from MM and it's the big MC10H – a great choke.

The Output control on the front panel isn't any kind of Master Volume and it doesn't alter the amp's loudness too much. It's more a "behaviour" control for the power amp and makes possible to adjust it from a smooth, sweet and compact behaviour like a 50 watter up to a very dynamic "in your face" sound, you're familiar with your 100W heads.

On this place still let me say, that w/o people like John at SoZo and Paul at Mercury Magnetics my British Purist never couldt be that awesome sounding amp, as it is now. And I'm very thankful to George, because he was very helpful getting in touch with John.

Unfortunately I still don't have any sound clips of the amp, but maybe soon I'll be recording some, to place them here.

Larry G

I've heard it today! While my Larry Dino Amp was serviced.
Awesome!
That's the sound you dream of! It knocks you right off your feet!
What a punch...what a tone stucture...what a dynamic...no words for it.

It exactly (I'm really serious about that!) does what you do and
it amplifies your input. If your guitar sounds bad, you will hear that.
If you are playing sloppy you will be punished!
But if you're playing well....heaven and hell ;)

I'm playing guitar for over 25 years and I have owed nearly everything -
you name it - I bet I had it - but there is not better british sounding amp out there.

...and the amp looks so much better in real live!

Congrats Larry!

The trannies seen on the pix are U.K. made, but meanwhile I'm using custom made trannies from Mercury Magnetics with an 1.75" OT made to my special demands. And because there I've ordered it with "slotted laminations" I still can mount the British Style end bells.
