4x12 cab

Post by OnTheFritz » Fri Apr 09, 2004 9:03 pm

Check this out.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 88511&rd=1

I just got one last week. These are brand new in the box. With shipping I scored it for $184. Not bad for baltic birch ply. They're auctioning about one of these a week.
Thinking somebody out there might want an inexpensive cab to beat the crap out of. :D

I scored two G-12S-50's off e-bay for a bargain, and I need two more of something.(16 ohm)
Any suggestions what would go good with these?
Anybody try the Weber ceramic Silver Bells?
I'll be drivin' this baby with a Metro Amp plexi when I can afford it.
I'm thinking about holding out for the 50 watt kit when George has that all worked out.(Right Flames?)
There's another one of these cabs on e-bay, just saw it today.

Kool

Post by johniss0001 » Sun Apr 18, 2004 4:13 pm

Kool !! They will sound great with a plexi my choice of speaker would be a Celestion G12-65 (vintage) I have got an old pair (2x12) of these hooked up to my H/H 2 channle head and they sound great with them or rola celestions which you see a lot on ebay. When I build my amp and cab I think I would go for the rolla's don't know what the ohms are (probably 16) they would give you the vintage sound you are looking for.

I'm drooling on my keyboard waiting for the 50 watters and JTM45 kits, hope I can scrape up enough bones after my baby is born to get one!!
As for Weber's, Fritz, I've got a cab with four of Weber's 30 watt Silver Bell speakers in it, they're great speakers!! A little darker than my Greenback reissues (which are ten years oldand well broken in, so they're not as "tight" and bright as new ones), nice big warm mids and lows. They're still bright enough to "cut" but they don't do it in a harsh or grating way at all. Highly recommended, and you can get them in 15, 30, or 50 watts, so you can run a 100 watt Marshall into a cab full of 30 or 50 watters without too much panic (Ted rates a little conservatively on power!)
You'll have to give the Webers proper break-in time, just like SoZo caps, before they'll really shine, but if you like old Greenbacks you should love the Bells just fine. He's got versions of the G12H30's for those of you that like those better.

Thanks John, and Flames for the input.
I really think Georges' 50 watter and JTM45 will really be something special, based on what I've seen and heard with Jon's rig!(No pressure George) :D
Like Flames said on the PP forum, it really makes you think about the inflated price of the so called "real deal" PTP Marshalls that are coming out when you can make or buy what is the equivalent of the real deal.(George)
Flames, I don't have your quotes on hand, I'm just going on memory, so please correct me if I miss quoted you.

Guys, I'm really fired up to get the 50 watt and JTM45 kits going myself.
Due in part to how happy I am with the 100's.

Here's some things that need to happen for me to get them ready:

spec and order chassis'

purchase transformers for comparison

build prototypes for purpose of:

comparing transformers
comparing circuits
comparing tubes
making sure parts all work together

decide on final specifications

build a kit while documenting the process for instructions

layout and proof step by step instructions

stock necessary inventory

It seem like a lot (and it is) but I learned a lot with the 100 watt kits. These will go fairly smooth. I think I can have them ready by Thursday morning.

OK I'm kidding. Sorry.

Honestly, I've reworked enough RI's to know what circuits, components ect sound right. It's just a matter of putting them together and documenting it.

Why don't we set a launch date for July 1st? June 15th, if you don't need instructions. That seems fair. And sleep is over-rated anyways.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Yes indeed, congrats Flames.

This may call for us to invoke the "man with new baby needs an amp kit" clause. I don't remember the terms exactly, I think one term of the agreement is that your child's first word must be "plexi". :D

We'll work something out when the kits are ready.

I don't know if you can get a kid to form the word "plexi" that early, but I can probably get something outta his mouth resembling "amp" to start with.
At least he won't be able to say "transistor" for quite a while, but "tube" maybe!!

I notice they are still selling those cabs. How do they look and sound? They look like a good deal, judging from the pic on the auction. 8)

I might have to get me one of those since I need an angled front cab to complete my stack. However I really dig the tone I get out of my '73 G12H-30 Greenbacks and would want the same speakers in this cab.

Anyone know how the reissue G12H Greenbacks sound or are they only making the G12M Greenbacks?

It looks really good. Nice tolex job. Metal corner protecters, metal handles.
All Baltic birch, no particle board. Internal center brace. Came new packed in factory box with speaker wires and screws included.

Not sure how it sounds yet, as I'm reaquiring gear one piece at a time due to financial restraints.

If you guys get a chance, snag one of these things.

Damn! Do they make a straight version??

And congrats Flames. Kids are a blast. I feel like an old man because my son is going to be 14 in a couple of months.

Throw a soon to be 12 year old daughter into the mix and you've got a house full of raging hormones LOL!
