I think I came off opposite of how I meant to with that last post.....my '76 LP is one of those LPs that earned the nickname the "fretless wonder".....
I thought NY chief was talking about installing larger frets...not smaller....
My bad.....

I bought my Custom with the original "fretless wonder" tiny and low frets. Didn't like 'em one bit. Had jumbo's put in and it felt a helluva lot better (to me anyway). You can really tear into a bend. My Rory Gallagher Strat came with jumbos and that too feels great. I never liked little frets.

Re: Man, I really want a Les Paul
I played a bazillion Les Pauls, and found this one for under a grand. It jumped out and screamed 'TAKE ME HOME!'. That and it plays like a dream.gnugear wrote:![]()
Must stay focused ... must finish Trainwreck clone ... must get anther cab ... must get some good Greenbacks.
But man, I'm really Jonesing for a Paul right now!! Currently I've got an Agile Les Paul copy but something about the thick plastic poly coating is turning my off. The guitar looks stellar but sounds really dull and lifeless.
So basically I don't know a whole lot about all the current LP choices. Reissues, Classics, Standards etc,. All I know is that I really want a faded cherry or honeburst finish with a cream pick guard. Are there any specific models to stay away from? Do they all have nitro finish? Are the woods all the same?

It looks a bunch like the '58 that Gary Rossington plays. Mine's a 1993 Standard with a Pearly Gates in the bridge. I'm currently looking for a really great neck pickup to go along with the PG.

Brilliant
I love it do you not?[:I][:I]Guitar Center had a bunch of RI Les Pauls in those faded cherry sunburst finishes, they really looked like shit to me. They were done like the cheapo faded SG's and Flying V's where the finish is a dull satin. Old finishes don't look dull and flat, they're just faded colorwise-- they should still have some sheen to them.

Let's see if pics of the JTM45/100 will show up or not (sorry they're small):

Family pic at the end........
I've actually been tempted to offer you my '75 50-watter, but my wife insists I keep it in case my son wants it when he's old enough.

God I'm looking at all of your amps with envy. So you finally sold your old bassman. I guess I'm the last fender guy left on Forum...I better get a metro before I get hung!
I do still have a Bassman 100 too, but there's little Fender left to that one.
