Guitar volume pot mod

Post by BashCoder » Wed Apr 19, 2006 9:53 pm

Has anyone done this mod on their guitar's volume pot? See the bottom triangle in the graphic below, from Liney Fralin's site. I have a Gretsch 6120DC, and it really sounds like crap if you turn down the master volume knob. I have a mustard cap and an AB CC resistor I could put in parallel with it...

I did that for my guitar. It's really nice not to lose all the highs when you turn it down. I also put a small inductor on my tone control to turn it into a mid cut. That's handy too. Much more musical IMHO.
Never settle for an amp thats smaller then you are.

I'm not crazy about the phase change mod, sounds linda "honk" like.

The coil tap is useful but I like to do the parallel/series mod better for a brighter sound as you do not lose the pickups' humbucking feature or output as much as just a coil tap.
